Albany rally and Lobby Day on the Equality Amendment

Reproductive rights organizations and advocates have identified two top bills to pass before the end of the NYS legislative session. The first is the Equality Amendment. In order to become an amendment to the State Constitution, this bill must pass the legislature twice, and then be approved by a statewide vote. This Amendment would: broadly prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, ethnicity, national origin, disability, or sex including pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. It would also provide tools to dismantle structural discrimination by prohibiting not only acts of intentional discrimination but also policies and practices that have a discriminatory impact. NYCLU, Planned Parenthood, NIRH, and other groups are holding a rally and lobby day to show support for this measure (which is also on BKForge’s legislative agenda).
